The Lammas ecovillage project met a very mixed reaction when it first presented its plans to the local communities back in 2006.
Throughout the planning process (2007 - 2009) Lammas maintained a transparent and open-doors approach for local people. The development was nonetheless very controversial locally and attracted both vocal opposition and passionate support.
During the summer of 2010 Lammas invited local people to visit the project and see the development first hand. Approximately 1100 people visited the project and were given guided tours free of charge.

Lammas maintains that its ecovillage development is an asset to local communities.
Benefits include:
The development of a flourishing land-based local economy. The ecovillage intends to supply a large range of fresh organic food, as well as traditional and innovative crafts to the local community.
The project will create a network of permissive footpaths across the site, opening up the land to walkers.
The settlement will be beautiful. The buildings will blend with their surroundings and the land will be host to a wide range of crops and wildlife.
The ecovillage development will support the local rural schools not only by sending their children there, but also by providing education opportunities from the site.
The development plans to run a community composting scheme and a local minibus.
Lammas is committed to local community integration:
